Platformer Demo
For this short Platform game demo, the sole focus was to create short, fast levels that could be realistically completed within a time frame of 20 seconds to a minute. Alongside this objective, I wanted to test my ability on how to teach a player the rules of the game without the need for endless tutorials and text specifically telling the player to "Jump at this point".
To combat this, inspiration was taken from current games such as Uncharted and God of War where elements of the world are designed to catch the player's eye without specifically telling them anything. The version used in this project was to have Hieroglyphs in the background that are heavily contrasted with the environment to gain attention from the player. These images would appear whenever the player required to learn a new mechanic of the game. For instance, in the first level the only thing required to complete the stage is to jump over three platforms which the player is shown. The second level then introduces the ability to grab and scale ledges.
