After taking a vacation I have hit the ground running with making the white box version of the level in the Far Cry Editor. I spent some time playing with all of the features that this software has to offer and it is really impressive. The vast majority of assets and how streamlined the AI setup is makes the whole process a lot easier for me.
After I got to grips with the basics I laid the foundations of the map down and decided on a crucial change to the level. Mostly I was designing the map with the player starting at the front entrance in mind, however, the sight lines of the rest of the map would be obscured as well as the amount of things going on in the player's view would cause confusion. To combat this I have decided to make the map more streamlined by having the player start on end of the train tracks for them to make their way to the other side, using the Train Station as a midway point for the main action to happen. Below are the screenshots of the progress I've made so far. Where I couldn't use basic geometry in the white boxing I have used placeholder assets to help populate rooms in order to gain a sense of spacing. These assets will be changed later on.
These following weeks will focus on finishing this stage, play testing and altering areas where required to improve the gameplay flow.
