Train Station
This project's purpose was to learn the tools of a new level editing software. For this goal I chose the Far Cry Editor. This brilliant if slightly quirky software gives the creator thousands of assets for use to create wondrous levels. Another objective for this project was to use real world architecture as inspiration for game world building. To do this, a location was chosen and photographed for use when creating the theme, colours, layout and scale.
During stages of this project I was presented with many challenges; learning a new software kit unknown to me prior to starting. Before beginning with the project itself, tutorials of the editor were viewed online as well as studying the user manual from the Ubisoft website. Another method of learning was the hands on approach, building smaller structures using assets available to learn the placement, the grid system and what objects worked with others etc.
After the basics were learned, the level project began. Another large challenge for the project was to get the correct balance between the real world architecture and good gameplay. A further aspect to keep in mind was what could be accomplished within the editor's limits. To start with, the layout was contrived of just the platforms in the station. This was then expanded upon due to feedback stating the level felt too small as well as not having enough open areas for the player to move more freely.
Premise: Cultists have overrun an Abandoned Train Station used by friendly forces and have turned it into their own fortress. The player has been sent to eliminate all hostiles and reclaim the territory.

Walkthrough

The player can spawn between 2 starting locations. This is chosen at random between the car park of the station or on one of the tracks. The decision to use 2 different spawn locations was to add replayability as well as let the player view areas they may not necessarily see the first time round during gameplay.
There are 2 combat zones in this level. Which combat zone will be first for the player will depend on spawn location. Both spawn locations have been placed in mind that can reward the player for small pieces of exploration before entering the combat phase with ammunition drops and different weaponry to use at their disposal.

If the player's starting location is the abandoned rail line, they have the opportunity to explore the outskirts of the train station where the cultists have set up a firing range.
A selection of weaponry is available at this location for the player.
Props such as climbing ropes and flares are used to direct the player towards loot/better positions.

Combat Zone 1: Stealth/Action approaches can be used.
Plenty of cover and areas to hide
Selection of weaponry for players to find/use.
6 enemies

Combat Zone 2:
A lot more enemies than combat zone 1
18 enemies divided into 3 groups of 6
Plenty of cover options in different rooms as well as the train cars on the tracks.
